GOLDEN SQUARE
The Golden Square is the administrative, residential and historical center of the city, within the boundaries of Zheltoksan, Kabanbai Batyr and Kunayev streets and up to Abai Avenue.
The “old center” was formed in the 1930s and 1970s, shifting from east to west into Almaly district. All the main government buildings were in this area when Almaty was the capital of Kazakhstan.
